Power Threat Meaning Framework Overview

$30.80

The Power Threat Meaning Framework is a new perspective on why people sometimes experience a whole range of forms of distress, confusion, fear, despair, and troubled or troubling behaviour. It is an alternative to the more traditional models based on psychiatric diagnosis.

This document offers a brief summary of the principles and evidence from which the PTM Framework emerged, but its main focus is on the PTM Framework itself and the General Patterns derived from it. It thus approximates to Chapter 6 of the longer document. In addition, it includes appendices illustrating some of the ways in which non-diagnostic practice has already been successfully adopted both within and beyond services.

It was produced under the auspices of the British Psychological Society in 2018 with lead authors:

  • Dr Lucy Johnstone, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Independent Trainer
  • Professor Mary Boyle, Professor Emeritus of Clinical Psychology, University of East London
