Partnership: Left Write Hook

By September 22, 2021February 3rd, 2026No Comments

Blue Knot Foundation and Left Write Hook join forces to empower survivors of complex trauma

Blue Knot Foundation, a leading national organisation dedicated to empowering survivors of complex trauma, including related to child sexual abuse, has partnered with Left Write Hook, a powerful transformative healing program showcased in a powerful documentary that combines boxing, connection, and personal storytelling.

The collaboration aims to amplify the experiences of survivors, highlight the power of creative expression and release through the body, as well as provide resources to empower healing. Blue Knot knows through research and lived experience that trauma, particularly that which is generated in relationships is often healed in relationships. By combining physical activity, emotional connection, and storytelling, Left Write Hook offers a unique approach to recovery for child sexual abuse survivors, experiencing complex trauma.

Dr Cathy Kezelman, President of Blue Knot Foundation said we know that trauma such as that of child sexual abuse is stored in the body and that ‘talk therapy’ together with ‘body and a range of approaches’ are often more effective than any single approach alone.

“Through the synergy of boxing, writing and true connection, participants not only build physical strength but also find their voices, reclaim their bodies and narratives, and are indeed ‘knot alone’, a core tenet Blue Knot highlights as critical for healing,” said Dr Kezelman.

“We believe in the power of stories and the resilience of the human spirit. By partnering with Left Write Hook, we are excited to amplify the voices of survivors, showcase the power of connection and highlight how creative expression can lead to profound healing.”

“Boxing is not just about physical strength,” says Donna Lyon from Left Write Hook. “It is an incredible form of mindfulness. It is a visceral and empowering way to release anger and regain a sense of control and agency in your body.”

“The Left Write Hook program is about finding your power, reclaiming your body, and discovering your voice.”

Through this partnership, Blue Knot Foundation and Left Write Hook hope to reach more survivors and educate communities about the importance of compassion, support and understanding for people with experiences of complex trauma, including child sexual abuse.
